Okay, the reason why I joined this place is because I wanna know more about TINP. I'm somewhat obsessed now... ;D

Just out of curiosity; has anyone figured out the very, <i>very</i> light text next to the tree with the glowing eyes says? In the "DON'T STRAY FROM THE PATH"-page? There's some question in it, it seems...

-------
edit: I've been trying to figure it out anyway... it looks like it says something along the lines of <i>
"HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT
IF SOMEONE CAME ALONG
AND ***** SOMETHING
*** OF YOU?" </i>

(*= no clue what letter it is)

Hide Your Sorrows

Alright... I admit I haven't read the whole forums yet... but I did read/scan most of it... and I can't find this anywhere, so I'll assume it hasn't been posted.

On the "Hide Your Sorrows" page, the letters in the background are a repeating pattern....

"BJDFI ECJHI HFFFI CGAII FBGHI FDGFI JDHGI IDDII DCCGI EEBJI JBHGI

JHHII DEAHI AABII FBHGI AJIII JJBHI JAFCI HJBBI CHFCI FBCCI EGIBI FAJCI EAECI JDAEI DIECI JEEFI DAFEI HIDCI FAAFI DJHDI ECDDI FFEFI EIJEI BBIDI CCDGI JJJFI JAHEI DFIDI CJHEI BHGGI EGDGI DGAGI BHFEI JJHGI JIFFI JGFFI AJDEI BHAHI DFFHI JJDHI JECGI BHJHI FBHGI HDCFI JIGGI JFDII JAJGI BAJGI FJIGI HCEGI JEDHI DDEGI GFEHI JJHII CCBII JIHHI AAJHI FDDII HIFHI DDCII JEEII HGHII FHIII JICJI AIJHI JJJII GBEII JCHII CACA FBAA JHJII FGFJI EADJI JBAE CJJC JGAD IGJC DABE CHEJI HJHA ECCA JFHA CCBA HJIA EIGA JHEE BBDE JFHD FIGD FBGD EHHD DFBE JFBE JBDF JJIC JCCC AABF BDBD DDED BHIC JHJC JHCD CAFC JGIC IDID JJGD DHCD DHDE JJCE JDID EGFD FAAE FAIE JBAE DIAE JEHE FBDE DEDF BBBF DGGE JBDF DEGF IGJE JGBF CCAG JJHF EBFF HGGF CGCG JBBH JCEG FCCG GGGG BFDG EEHG JDGG IDIG BHBH CHCH FJCH JJAH JJFH JGEH HHHH DGFH JJFH AIAI FFAI DGBI HEEI JDEI JIDI GIGI FFJI GIA JAD CFC HEE FJE FJE JAG DCH DFH JGI JB DCI"

Which, letter to number like this:

A-0
B-1
C-2
D-3
E-4
F-5
G-6
H-7
I-8
J-9

Becomes This:

19358 42978 75558 26088 51678 53658 93768 83388 32268 44198 91768

Also, I noticed a few things...

First, every group of five letters or numbers ends with and 'I' or an '8'

Second, the only group of two letters is 'JB' which are the two white letters on the "Hide Your Sorrows" page, backwards

Third, (and I know this is already posted, I think) in the source I found four messages:
"wax"
"A one armed skeleton"
"find me"
"Not smart by half"

These may pertain to the translated text, and they may not...(I read something here about a mine in arizona...?)

I can't translate it yet... I hope others have better luck

Hey-- I'm new here and have been looking over the TINP thread and noticed this...
A few months back I was trying to find DDD at my library. Although it wasn't there I found another book, a compilation of short stories by Murakami, titled The Elephant Vanishes.

Does that have anything to do with the vanishing elephant hint a few pages before this?

Hey all,
I'm also a victom of TINP, as of Monday I've gotten very little sleep. Anyway after getting through first few pages on my own, I found the cellar fourms. I have not caught up completly as I've only skimmed quickly through the forums, and with the page forks, its a big mess in my brain....

(Well here is my contribution: )

That transalates to:
(We shall extend the empire of Persia such that its boundaries will be God's own sky, so the sun will not look down upon any land beyond the boundaries of what is our own.)

I wrote a little program to help my covert the ascii codes and all. what I did for this text is:
1) A->9, B->8.....J->0
2) Reversed the text (it should now start like: 80 130 246 276 390 504 504 552 747 690 913 1044 1313 1610 1560 1552 1836 ....) (The DCI at the end doesn't belong)
3) then I divided each number by its position: 80/1 130/2 246/3 390/4 ....
4) then ascii to text reveals:
PARENTHESESWeshallextendtheempireofPersiasuchthatitsboundarieswillbeGod APOSTRPHEsownskyCOMMAsothesunwillnotlookdownuponanylandbeyondtheboundaries ofwhatisourownPERIODPARENTHESES

I haven't looked into the meaning of it yet....

The sentance appears on the net in a few places:
1) The Code Book: The Science of Secrecy from Ancient Egypt to Quantum Cryptography (does this isbn appear anywhere else on the site?)
http://www.randomhouse.ca/catalog/di...3&view=excerpt
2) A more lengthy extract from the book here:
http://www.arch.columbia.edu/DDL/cad/A4513/S2001/r9/

anyway, I guess that where this password was from:

So I was reading Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass and when Alice was looking at the White King's Book in the Looking Galss House she read this poem (she had to hold it up to a mirror to read it because it was bakwards [the important bit is bold]):

JABBERWOCKY.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought-
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood a while in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
He chortled in his joy.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

How would you like it if someone came along and picked something off of you? That was posted in the forums a while back.

thats a reference to the Wizard of Oz, when dorothy and the scarecrow (i believe its only them, kinda makes reference to the light prompt of "Dorothy and Scarecrow") take an apple off of the tree, the tree yells that line at them.

Also, the book "Dance Dance Dance" can be found here:

http://yanko.lib.ru/books/lit/engl/m...dance-engl.htm

If you scroll down on the page more you'll see where the story starts...its the complete book as far as I can tell! also anywhere where there is "<<...words...>>" that means the same as quotations ("...words..."). So if anyone has some spare time but doesn't feel like buying or borrowing the book from the library, please look this over, as the more people we have educated on the many sources he draws from, maybe people can put together previously unregarded bits of information...

[EDIT: I just found this essay online!

http://gbctrans.com/essay/essay.html

Earlier in the forums somebody (i believe redneck?) found quotes from frankenstein and from something else (i cant remember), but then he also said that in the diablo.gif picture he found the phrase "The french man in a box." Now I just skimmed through it so the comparisons aren't complete, but In that essay, it describes Bertolt Brecht (man with ideas of alienation)'s conversation with a woman he would later marry:

"So that's how you plan to spend the rest of your life?"
"Probably. At least that way I won't be bothering anybody."
"If you really feel that way," she said, "Why not live in a shoebox?
"A charming idea."

A man in a box, with theories on alienation (a main theme in both books), not necessarily french though
.
I'm gonna go see what more I can pull out of Google, but honestly, read this essay! it's especially helpful for understanding the basic idea(s) of Dance Dance Dance and The Wild Sheep Chase for those who haven't read them.]

Has anyone heard truthfully if anyone has gotten past those first 2 lights???

Hey guys... my friend's dad is navajo, he said one of the navajo messages said... "A path only blind men see. & There lies the key." I don't know exactly what message it was from...... but yeah. Maybe that might help someone out, if someone hadn't already found that. He says he swears he saw something like that in Dante's "Inferno" and is looking it up. But this might be the wrong referance.

awesome info Ender, see if you can have that guy convert as much as he can, anything we can get helps alot.

I did a google search for blind men's path, and it came up a few times with this short play based on a fable the Persian poet Jalãl al-Din Rümï wrote, I don't know if that's the right reference (he seems to like to reference novels) but it is basically about the problems with human ignorance, political propaganda, etc. etc., but I remember seeing somewhere something about Truth...could Truth be the key? I dunno, heres the web site:

http://www.ecospherics.net/pages/PageBlinM&Eleph.html

This is pretty cool too...because it references both elephants and a Hose (Jobe's wife was plagued by runners and a hose), so maybe this play (or more assumably the original fable) has something to do with this.

[Edit: It turns out this fable was big influence to the american poet John Godfrey Saxe, so if anyone is familiar with his work, maybe we could check that out for any sort of blind men's paths, truths, keys, etc.]

I don't know I will ask my friend exactly which code it was he saw. On another note has anyone found the correlation between the black page, that talks about sitting at a table. And the candle page? It just seems like it should go together, with the blackness, and then the candle lighting the way, and they are both linked off of the Moth links.
