I think of a notebook as being smaller than a laptop. So far, 100% of the people agree with me.

Plus, my laptop always sits on my actual lap, so it is more accurate.

laptop is the old term. most manufacturers are moving to notebook. part of it is to get away from liability from burned laps from heated laptops. i have hopped on the bandwagon.

It's a laptop. It's much bigger than a notebook.

I still say laptop, but now that I own a *notebook*, I am trying to learn to call it that.

I use 'laptop' for Windows machines and 'notebook' for Macs (all portable of course).

Only in tragic, dire situations I hope. I hate utilizing the "lap" part.

I read that the radiation and heat can do vile things to sperm count. They should call it a kneetop.

As well as the burnt lap and toasted sperm issues, typing on the machine on your lap is bad for your wrists.
Which is why, as TheOtherGuy notes, liability-shy manufacturers are calling them notebooks.
However, "laptop" contrasts so neatly with "desktop". And its catchier.
Also, using the machine on your lap, when you're looking at porn, can make the situation rather unstable...

PS "Laptop? Thats a funny name for it. I'd call that a Chuzzwuzzah."
