I havent heard of this band but it seems that they have been a group since 1987 and the other day the Illinois state fair cancelled their show because the name of the band might offend some people.

The reason given was it "appears to reflect racial sensitivity concerns.”

Absolutely insane!!!

The name of the band is Confederate Railroad!!

Had people not used the confederate flag as a symbol for promoting racism, then it would not be a problem. But even the most racist state flags used that symbol to express their racism. We are finally coming to grips with that racism.

We have also seen people subvert other symbols or expressions for nefarious reasons. The term liberty and freedom have too often expressed conservative hate. We must eat Freedom Fries because the French were so honest about exposing the 'Saddam has WMD' lies. Right to Life is now how we keep women in their place. A defacto flag for racists is the confederate flag.

Maybe if they performed Neil Young's "Southern Man" more often, then it would be a joke. But without facts, the expression is only taken at face value. Confederate has become the cover word for racism.

The Confederate flag is also frequently used by Neo-Nazi groups in Germany because actual Nazi symbolism is illegal there. They know exactly what it means to them.
