Pop-up issue

Hey folks...

I'm having a problem with pop-up ads. Out of nowhere, they start coming up...not a lot, but a few here and there. I haven't given the firewall or computer any new permissions. I've ran spybot and ad-aware, but nothing is coming up. However, when ad-aware starts going through the shared DLLs, it starts to bog down. When it's finished running, an ad will then pop up. And I've run Norton...no viruses.

Help!

Pop ups or Windows messenger type dialogs? Big difference. I use google toolbar and never, ever get a fucking pop up.

Your problem is almost certainly caused by viewing porn.

It's funny that you mentioned that...

Rho decided to check out some pornographic site a few weeks ago (I shit you not)...wound up infecting the computer with a virus. That problem was rectified...or so I thought.

Here's an example of what I'm getting:

The pop-ups are apparently coming from the following IP: 69.20.62.53.

And I'm using XP.

Dumb question territory... you said you ran Spybot S&D and Adaware... did you downlaod the latest updates in both cases?

Well that's a pop up. Ok, you need to format the hard drive, re-install the OS & apps & recover or recreate all your data.

Seriously tho, are spybot, and ad aware up to date? What do you use to block ads anyway?

XP System Restore will take you back to before you started getting them.

You might also view-toolbars in Internet Explorer and see if you've downloaded an adware toolbar. Internet Explorer will allow third parties to attach toolbars to it if you give permission.

Yahoo, McAffee, and Real Networks have toolbars out there.

Alright...I'm back, and boy did fixing this shit suck ass!

Here's what happened...I got hit by Look2Me. Long story short: had to boot up with the WinXP CD and delete a DLL file. Problem fixed...and it only took all fucking day...and I only found out what this Look2Me shit was by accident.

Now, if I could just figure out why I can't run Ad-aware on my guest account...

Be advised that there is shit out there that AdAware doesn't get rid of, even if it finds it. I had to buy a program called Pest Patrol in order to get rid of one of those stinking "client" programs whose sole job is to download more trojan-like adware. I just can't remember what it was called anymore, but it was fucking horrible. Took me 24 hours to eradicate it.

Why the hell isn't it illegal to write shit like that? Can we sue the advertisers whose windows pop up as a result of this adware virus activity?

This stuff has got so bad, it's not just reg, it's dlls, it fucks with your TCP/IP stack, modifies apps and embeds itself in everything, every time I visit my parents I end up doing it.
