2/1/2006: 100-patty In-and-Out burger

IotD is a little late to this one, and it's all my fault as I saw this but for some reason did not think it that remarkable at first. I am slipping, you know, in my old age.

Anyway, this burger was documented, and now widely linked to, in this blog entry. This is a "100x100" In-And-Out burger, ordered by eight very silly people; it's 2 buns, 100 patties of burger, 100 slices of cheese. It came to $97.66.

And they ate it all. And they discovered that the meat was not so bad, but the cheese... foul.

Where did it all happen? Where else... Vegas!

IotD has previously documented Denny's Pub's 9-pound burger, and feels that Denny's is the original large burger from which all other Internet big burger trends follow. Even if a larger burger is produced, they're all just capitalizing on the hard work of Denny's Pub.

In my opinion, it's no longer a burger when you have to use a knife and fork to eat it without making a mess.

Trilby  Wednesday Feb 1 04:35 PM

my own rule of thumb: if it's longer than my spine, I don't attempt it.

Elspode  Wednesday Feb 1 04:48 PM

Or, in the immortal cartooning of Bernie Kliban, "Never eat anything bigger than your head."

justmehere99  Wednesday Feb 1 04:57 PM

That dosen't even look good.....yuck

dar512  Wednesday Feb 1 05:02 PM

I don't know. The La Bamba restaurant in Champaign,IL advertises "Burritos as big as your head".

There's a sign on the building that tells you they also have a "drive through as wide as your car".

glatt  Wednesday Feb 1 05:03 PM

It looks gross to me now, and it's getting close to suppertime, so I'm not sure how hungry and/or drunk I'd have to be to to want some of that.

Maybe if I could smell it...

Guess  Wednesday Feb 1 05:22 PM

must have taken a huge-ass grill/stove to cook that sucker- looks like they laid it on it's side and sat the patties vertical w/ cheese inbetween.

glatt  Wednesday Feb 1 05:27 PM

If I were making it, I would cook the patties up on the grill the normal way. Stand the box up, put the bun bottom in the box, and start stacking the patties up. You would probably need to lean the box back against the wall at some point, to keep it from falling over. Maybe it would take one or two cycles on the grill to cook up enough patties. Then put it under the heat lamp to keep it warm until the victims come to pick it up. That's when the cheese would have started to melt all funny.

But that's just me guess.

xoxoxoBruce  Wednesday Feb 1 05:33 PM

Crappy looking cheese and the last couple of patties were raw.
My, and most, dog(s) would have loved it.

Not really a recommendation, of course, as dogs will also eat BMs.

capnhowdy  Wednesday Feb 1 06:32 PM

I bet those were some sick mofos that nite and the next day.

Worst of all....no special sauce. Yo, Burger King.....whose ya daddy now?

I watched a friend eat eight big macs one time. Then he puked. And puked. We laughed. And we laughed. To this day he still won't eat a big mac. Imagine that.

Same shit, just a little earlier.

chrisinhouston  Wednesday Feb 1 10:59 PM

I liked how they said they got raw meat patties at the end of the burger or whatever you call the damn thing. RAW?? That would make me vomit for sure.

stellamerteuil  Thursday Feb 2 07:49 AM

Blecchhh! Just looking at that makes me feel really nauseated.

mmmmmmmmmmm,bur-ger

seakdivers  Thursday Feb 2 12:11 PM

That is just toooo much cheese. Yuck. My kids would probably eat it though.

wolf  Thursday Feb 2 01:19 PM

I'd be fine just so long as they're cooked medium or better.

I can't do raw(ish) burger.

BrianR  Thursday Feb 2 08:46 PM

lemme at it! I'll eat anything, even the little round brown things at Flying J deli counters.
They call em chicken nuggets but I have serious doubts.

I remember that sign, but alas, we only ate at Dos Reales on Prospect. In fact Mr Fargon and I went on our first 'date' there.

And I can't imagine eating anything as sizable as what's pictured. Is it supposed to be edible?

srom  Thursday Feb 2 10:19 PM

Run, don't walk, from the blob! (...of cheese)

i agree with stellamert. i can't even look at it without feeling greasy.
