Katkeeper's store

Well okay mine too:

http://enamelplace.com

It's "open" but this is the first place that is announced.

If you try it and have a problem of some sort, let me know. :worried:

BigV 09-14-2006 04:00 PM

Nice and tight. No flaws found so far. And the subjective evaluation is two thumbs up. Nicely laid out, consistent pictures, easy navigation. I haven't tried to buy something (yet), and that's obviously an important part to have right.

I especially liked the consistent and professional photography of the items. I liked the lighting coming in from the side a little.

footfootfoot 09-14-2006 04:06 PM

Cool, but a couple of oddities, thus: click on pendants and get no thumbnails. click on an item, image pops up, click on enlarge get a tiny pop up window with a picture of a dime.

using firefox.

I want to search more here, tomorrow is our 10th anniversary.

glatt 09-14-2006 04:35 PM

I registered. It was painless. My only suggestion would be to put the United States first in the drop down menu of countries to save a second or two of scrolling time. Not a big deal, but you might want to change that.

I just tried to buy some earrings, but ran into a small glitch, so I'm holding off and keeping them in my shopping cart. I wanted to mail them to myself at work, so I could keep it a surprise for my wife. My work address needs more than one line for the street address. I need space for my name, my company's name (because there is more than one company in the building,) and the street number.

There's no rush for me for this order to go through, so don't feel pressured by me to change it.

The rest of the site looked really nice and worked very well.

SteveDallas 09-14-2006 05:20 PM

Hmmm, the Dallas women both got their ears pierced a couple weeks ago.....

Clodfobble 09-14-2006 06:00 PM

A small aesthetic thing: it seems strange to display ten thumbnails per page but arrange them in three columns. It was awhile before I noticed that there were additional pages at the bottom of each category because the unfinished row made it look like the "end" of the pictures.

Undertoad 09-14-2006 06:36 PM

We bought this special translucent hood device for the photography... works like a charm.

I've added Company Name to the list of fields you can fill in.

No thumbnails is a strange occurrence; think that was a glitch. The enlarge window size thing is a problem.. it should be more like 800x600. You can resize that window by hand, but I still have to figure out where that size is set up.

CF, maybe just one page with all of them on it, instead of having page after page with item?

Sure, that would work, or just display 9 or 12 items per page so it looks full. Personally I like having everything on one page, but maybe ask a dial-up user how fast it loads that way.

Undertoad 09-14-2006 07:06 PM

60 per page it is.

Griff 09-14-2006 07:49 PM

Nice work, Mom and Son alike. The holidays are coming!

Cool. I just completed an order. I can't wait to see it. I just realized that our anniversary is coming up in two weeks, so these earings will be perfect.

I'm not complaining, just giving feedback. When I wanted to print out the confirmation of the order, a new window (in Firefox) opened up with a full page preview of the confirmation. When I clicked the java "print" icon within the page, it printed out real tiny, all scrunched up in the top two inches of the paper. I'm fine with that for my needs, but it doesn't look like the on-screen print preview at all. I have no idea if it's something on my end with my printer settings. The last thing I printed previously was done in the fast/rough draft mode on my printer. Maybe that had something to do with it? Or maybe it's something else?

Edit: btw, I got both confirmation e-mails when I registered and placed the order, so that's working great.

Undertoad 09-14-2006 09:22 PM

I'll take a look at the print confirm... that's weird. Thank you sir! Your order goes out tomorrow!

Clodfobble 09-14-2006 09:40 PM

Cool, I like it much better with all the products in a category on one page.

Also, just noticed something else funky: In the "Latest Products" window on the left hand side, there is a little arrow you can click to presumably view all the most recently added products. Clicking this arrow brings up a single thumbnail, with the caption "Displaying 1 to 8 (of 13 new products)." Clicking the "Next" page button brings up another single thumbnail, and those are the only two you can view.

Also, if you run a search for anything, at the top of the page it says "Top » Catalog » Advanced Search's" instead of "Advanced Searches".

Forgive the anal retentiveness, I did used to work in QA. :) The site is very well-designed, and the jewelry is beautiful! Will any of the bowls or wall artwork make it to the site for sale?

Undertoad 09-14-2006 09:56 PM

No no, thank you VERY much for pointing these things out. It's worthwhile to get these little things worked out.

I really hope other items can go on the site. I would love to feature all kinds of things.

SteveDallas 09-14-2006 09:57 PM

UT, exactly what kind of hood did you get to do the pictures? I've seen those, but I don't do enough "product shot" type of things to justify getting one.

Do you take stuff on consignment? I have at least one 80286 motherboard in the basement. 12MHz if I remember correctly. :D

Elspode 09-14-2006 10:07 PM

UT - Does your mom do commission work, something roughly drawn and/or described? I'd really like to come up with something cool for Mrs Elspode for our anniversary.

Undertoad 09-14-2006 10:08 PM

Cloud Dome

Does that come with the reeds or do you just use a bow on that?

SteveDallas 09-14-2006 10:34 PM

The Cloud Dome looks cool... most of people don't realize just how bad using the direct flash looks until they get a chance to compare it to other arrangements.

For you, Elspode, I'll throw in a 5.25" floppy drive!

Undertoad 09-14-2006 10:50 PM

Katkeeper has done consignment things before, but of course, the medium of enamel, very roughly colored glass "melting" onto copper, is rather imprecise...

...which may or may not be exactly what's called for.

xoxoxoBruce 09-14-2006 11:12 PM

Enamel  Cloud Dome:drool:

I'm thinking of a pentagram, five-pointed star in a circle, pendant as the end result. Could be either a cluster fuck or a truly unique work of art, depending on the planetary alignments...

Undertoad 09-14-2006 11:38 PM

That could surely be done. She's off teaching at a workshop right now; let me point her to the thread when she gets back.

wolf 09-15-2006 12:27 AM

Wow just really doesn't quite cover it, but ... WOW.

glatt 09-15-2006 07:47 AM

Another thought.

The confirmation e-mails went out under your name. I knew who they were from, but the general public might wonder who this Tony guy is, especially since your name doesn't appear anywhere on the web page that I noticed. Maybe you should send the e-mails from "Customer Service", "Shipping", "Enamelplace", or something like that.

LabRat 09-15-2006 12:50 PM

Fun stuff!! I love the red bracelet. Everything seemed to work well when I was there jsut now. I like having all of the images come up at once when clicking a catagory. Enlarged images were very nice. Good Luck!!

footfootfoot 09-15-2006 10:22 PM

Still no thumbs for "pins" and "pendants." "Earings" has only one pair E1032 Lavender Long as a thumb. All Bracelets have thumbs.

This is true for both EI and Firefox.

Gonna keep looking, a lot of really great work.

footfootfoot 09-15-2006 10:24 PM

Another funny thing: when you click enlarge, you get a huge window but the product is exactly the same size, the image just has more background. i.e. it's not cropped.

xoxoxoBruce 09-16-2006 03:58 AM

B-1055, green bracelet, the links described as square are oval. Pretty picky, huh.
B-1057, blue braclet, same thing.

footfootfoot 09-16-2006 09:17 PM

Just got an email (order#23) saying that my order status had been changed to "delivered." It hasn't been, so I presume you meant "shipped." may want to change that. Couldn't have possibly been delivered in such a short time unless you were on a road trip and dropped them of personally, and didn't stay for a beer.

Undertoad 09-16-2006 09:52 PM

Shipped it is. Thanks.

footfootfoot 09-18-2006 09:04 PM

Delivered it are!

Home girl loves them.

Undertoad 09-18-2006 09:52 PM

Glad to hear it F3! If any Cellarite is not satisfied, let me offer a 100% guarantee of refund w/shipping, no worries no grudges. It's only right.

glatt 09-20-2006 07:40 AM

I just got back this morning from a short trip for work, and there was my package waiting for me in my in-box on my desk. The earrings are very nice. I think they will be a hit as well.

Thanks, UT.

Hell, that's a given. You, and Katkeeper by extension, are always fully implied warranty. :D

Undertoad 09-26-2006 09:34 AM

I put an ad up on the IotD blog view page, let's see what happens.

xoxoxoBruce 09-26-2006 09:01 PM

Good chance to test the Blog View potential with feedback you can track truthfully.

xoxoxoBruce 11-08-2006 07:45 PM

Woo Hoo....got word today, my order's on it's way. Can't wait to see them.:thankyou:

xoxoxoBruce 11-10-2006 09:54 PM

Ooh....wow....geez....damn....they came....and they are marvelous!

Now, I know UT went to great lengths to photograph Katkeeper's work. He even bought that special gizmo for even lighting. Know what?...he failed.
No photograph could compare to the radiance of these pieces. Kind of like complex multicolored diamonds......or an Alexander Brothers paint job, but I highly doubt if anyone knows what that means. It means wow.

Some day, some expert on the Antiques Road Show, will be telling some girl, how incredibly lucky she is to own a genuine Averill Shepps enamel piece.
I kid you not. :2cents:

Undertoad 11-10-2006 11:31 PM

I thank you on her behalf sir!

It's true, photographing these is really impossible. Professional photographers can't even really do it, because of the way they reflect.

Katkeeper 11-12-2006 04:40 PM

Bruce, if you'd just put an "e" in Averill, we could run your statement as a satisfied customer comment on the website!

xoxoxoBruce 11-12-2006 09:01 PM

Yeah, I know...I came here to do that.
I spotted it in the email I sent.

Um, I misspelled it on purpose so the IRS couldn't find ya....yeah that's it...I was doing you a favor.

SteveDallas 11-25-2006 09:19 PM

UT, thought you might be interested in this--perhaps just academic interest since you already have the Cloud Dome.

http://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/07...to-studio.html

(I haven't done the light box yet, though I probably will--I have a couple things that need selling on FleaBay--but I have put together the Starving Students Lighting Kit from the same site.)

Undertoad 11-25-2006 10:35 PM

Katkeeper built one of those...

...thirty years ago. I helped! I was ten!

The dome works better, partly because it's round, and partly because it has a nice bracket system to hold your cam in place, the same place every time. But the price...!

footfootfoot 11-25-2006 11:14 PM

Steve, that is a cool site. I learned sumpin new there. I love lighting tricks.

Katkeeper 11-26-2006 08:00 AM

We did indeed build a similar structure. I found that drafting vellum works well also and holds up better than the tissue paper.

The jewelry is selling well in Cincinnati where I am currently doing a show.

xoxoxoBruce 11-26-2006 09:03 AM

At long last, Cincinnati has something to be proud of. :D

What? The pigs weren't enough? you greedy bastards.

*if knew how would link a pic to the many, many painted pigs set around Cincy*

footfootfoot 11-26-2006 08:42 PM

My very good friend is from Cinci and he rolls out the red carpet when I visit. Skyline chili, Krogers, Edy's ice cream and all the tourist spots. He is very proud of his city. He even took me to see "Pete Rose Way" which he pointed out was sadly re-named "The Cooperstown Bypass"

xoxoxoBruce 11-26-2006 09:41 PM

Oh, that's cold. Poor pete.:(

footfootfoot 11-27-2006 09:38 PM

Actually, my pal also goes on to say that at cooperstown there should be a plaque that simply states:

Pete Rose-- Switch hitter, All-time major-league leader in hits (4,256), games played (3,562), and at bats (14,053). Winner of three World Series rings, three batting titles, one MVP, two gold gloves, Rookie of the year, and 17 All-star appearances at five different positions: 2B, LF, RF, 3B, and 1B. Banned from baseball for life.

I like the idea of his gambling being aside from his record as a ball player. I mean at least he wasn't betting against his team.

Next time try to get your hands on some Graeter's Ice Cream. Can't beat it!

Yeah, old Pete should be in the Hall of Fame. For some reason, other athletes are forgiven all sorts of horrors, but they can't drop the thing against Pete.

footfootfoot 11-28-2006 04:19 PM

Graeter's! that's what I meant. Edy's is some supermarket crap. My bad.

That's because he wouldn't kiss their collective asses......and he shouldn't.

xoxoxoBruce 01-01-2007 07:45 PM

Christmas has come and gone once again. And I am spoken of in tones reserved for deities.... thanks to Katkeeper's talent and creative ingenuity with her art/craft.
To say they all loved Katkeeper's enameled jewelry is a gross understatement.
Thank you Ma'am, I speak of you in tones reserved for deities. :notworthy

Oh yeah...Valentine's Day isn't that far off, is it? Hmmm.

Katkeeper 01-02-2007 02:58 PM

Thanks so much for the adulation! I am always happy when I know people appreciate my enamels. Now if only someone else would read it and be inspired to purchase...

xoxoxoBruce 10-21-2007 09:08 AM

Heads up

We've been having a wonderful Indian Summer, this fall, and because of that, I just realized it's damn near Halloween.
That means a few weeks until turkey day and a few more until Christmas. It'll be here in a New York minute, and you'll be all, Oh-crap-I'm-not-ready-what-will-I-do-I'm in deep-doodoo-now.

Well bunkie, get your order in now... operators are standing by to save your butt from the embarrassment of, last-minute-crappy-gift-syndrome.

Undertoad 10-21-2007 09:55 AM

But the store is currently down for maintenance.

xoxoxoBruce 10-21-2007 12:06 PM

Whip the maintenance man.
