March 6, 2007: Biggest burger record returns to Denny's

http://cellar.org/2007/dennysburger.jpg

IotD first covered Denny's Beer Barrel Pub's 9 pound burger, who held the record at I think 50 lbs. IotD covered the Bob's BBQ in Thailand, and their 100 pounder which broke that record. IotD covered Clinton Station Diner in New Jersey and their 105-pound record-breaker.

IotD now celebrates the original Denny's who now take the record back with this 123-pounder. Congrats Denny! (Here's Denny's website.)

Want some details? One local story says
Quote:

To create the Bismarck of burgers, Denny's Beer Barrel Pub used 80 pounds of ground Angus beef, a 30-pound bun baked on the premises, 3 pounds of lettuce, 160 slices of cheese, 10-12 tomatoes, 4-5 onions, several jars of peppers, one pound each of ketchup, mayonnaise, relish and mustard and 30 dill pickle spears. The ingredients alone cost approximately $200, said Denny Leigey, owner of Denny's Beer Barrel Pub.

The restaurant also had to have special molds and stainless steel pans made at TD Fabricating and Welding of Clearfield at a cost of approximately $500 to accommodate the super-sized burger.

The meat was cooked overnight for 6-8 hours in an oven, but a special heat shield had to be constructed on the oven because the burger was too large for the regular oven door to close properly, said Mr. Leigey.

And one note tells you Denny is preparing for any uppity competition:
Quote:

Mr. Leigey said he is having a special pan made to correct this problem so the heat shield will not be needed in the future.
Bring it on.

"I said I want it rare! Take it back and make me another! And put more cheese on it!"

lumberjim 03-06-2007 01:50 PM

baked in an oven?!

not a burger. it's meatloaf on a bun. burgers should be grilled or fried. preferably grilled.

Stonan 03-06-2007 02:09 PM

I think there should be some kind of catch that the record doesn't stand unless all the participants eat ALL of it... :repuke:

Where, oh, where is our Moral Authority, sproglet? Sproglet would be outraged at this! And go on and on about the waste, people, the WASTE that you create with novelty food! That burger could have fed...Look if sprog doesn't show up, I'll get my whip out and start condemning everybody--deal? :whip:

Shawnee123 03-06-2007 03:49 PM

This IS a tasty burger!

Trilby 03-06-2007 04:13 PM

Excuse me--did I interrupt you?

Coz I'm motherfuckin' sick of these motherfuckin' snakes on this motherfuckin' plane!

Scriveyn 03-07-2007 01:04 AM

What!? Just 5 onions? I want another dozen or so!

See, the onions from image 2 have already been cherry-.... ahemmm onion-picked in pics 1 and 3. - And why have the pickles turned over in the process? Very strange.

lumberjim "not a burger. it's meatloaf on a bun."
I couldn't agree more with that assessment! A burger that thick is not a burger either! How can you take a bite out of that!!?!? I think a hundred pound burger should be 30 feet in diameter and bite-able!!

Sundae 03-07-2007 04:51 AM

I'd have to take the tomatoes off. Raw tomatoes - bleurgh. Also not entirely happy with the mixture of condiments - ketchup AND mustard AND mayo AND relish...?

But apart from that it looks reasonable. Nicer than the NJ one anyway - that looked like food poisoning in a bun.

If this burger was in our kitchen right now I'd be helping myself. Can't say fairer than that :yum:

milkfish 03-07-2007 05:06 AM

That's no 30 pound bun. I want the bun-weigher questioned.

The perfect job! Bun-weigher!

I could go 'round and say to various harried and unappreciated and nearly-psychotic-from-the-lack-of-respect fast food workers, "I'm terribly sorry, but I 've got to weigh this bun before you serve it---part of the Federal Insistance on Equity in Bun Weight program. After all, it IS your tax money at work here."

Shawnee--xob didn't like it.

Shawnee123 03-07-2007 09:33 AM

Ooops, IotD. :o
I bleeped the quote.

Undertoad 03-07-2007 10:35 AM

Fuck that, I don't think we should censor IotD.

At one point, was it Elspode? who said that the net nanny would switch on and prevent you from seeing a page if there were too many swear words on it. But who determines the intentions of a word, macaca?

What kind of licensing is involved?

Different burger maybe? You just know people are lining up around the corner for this thing...

Doctor: So, how did you seperate your shoulder?
Denny's Patron: I had a cheeseburger.
Doctor: How's that again?:eyebrow:

LabRat 03-07-2008 04:23 PM

They probably figured it took you about this long to digest all of that, and might be hungry for another...

xoxoxoBruce 03-07-2008 09:44 PM

I wonder if McDonald's knows, thegianthamburger.net has an animated GIF of the Hamburgler on their site?

BrianR 03-09-2008 09:00 AM

bookmarked!

my next cookout in the new house will feature one of these...assuming I can get enough friends over to finish it off. Da dawgs will eat it all themselves but will explode shortly after.

spudcon 03-10-2008 07:35 PM

Oh, never mind, I thought it said the biggest booger record at Denny's.

xoxoxoBruce 03-10-2008 10:45 PM

It did. What the hell do you think that is, a burger?
