The Terminal Man
Anybody remember the book by Michael Crichton? Came out in the 70s, I believe (I kind of remember reading it in high school the first time). It was made into a movie with George Segal.
It was about this guy, see, who had these electrodes implanted into his brain to control this rare kind of seizure activity, and like it backfired in a Frankensteinian kind of way ... Anyhow, This isn't quite the same thing. They are going to be doing implantations of these devices in at least one local hospital. Not mine, we don't do the surgery thing, but a rep showed up at the nuthouse today to try to set up to do a presentation, as it's hoped that we might be part of the referral stream. I'm interested from the standpoint that if they start putting these things into patients, I will likely end up seeing folks with them, so it probably wouldn't hurt to understand what it's doing. Can't be worse than ECT, right?
