Clearly, according to UT's chart, we'll get to negative growth soon and then we'll be right. All this technology, and not so many people.

As long as we don't blow ourselves up first, we'll be fine.

Maybe, but: declining population has its own special set of problems, including economic decline, and the imbalance of fewer youngsters having to pay for more medical support for the elderly.

...in fact improvements in food production and technology have allowed population growth to continue unimpeded and relatively smoothly, and the real potential nightmare is of a rapidly aging population, combined with collapsing birthrates in both rich and poor states.

Many demographers and long-term planners say the challenge for the next century will be less dealing with growing numbers of people and more managing the much larger population of aged and perhaps dependent people while finding new strategies to deliver prosperity, jobs and essential services.

The trend has already contributed to the current global financial crisis by driving up health and social care bills and perhaps also undermining productivity.

I heard somewhere this week that reduced male fertility should give us a human free planet in 10,000 years or so, unless Pakistani nukes go free range earlier.

Here is the exact same error made by the overpopulation scientists: predict the future by assuming the present curve won't change.

40 years ago scientists determined population would increase out of control, and today some set has determined it will decrease out of control.
