I think we finally have a name for the little girl born one week ago. No pics yet, though!
Auryn Midnight V___ "Auryn" is the magical talisman owned by the Child Empress in the Neverending Story. "Midnight" because she was born at midnight! So, I have -- Orion and Auryn born the same week!

How is Auryn pronounced?
I read the book, but blanked the film out of my mind because it didn't match up (yes, even as a twelve year old I was a literary snob!) LOVE Midnight as a middle name! Reminds me of Midnight Is a Place by Joan Aitken. And that is a remarkable children's book.

This is how they pronounce it in the movie, anyway (technically I guess I should put a spoiler alert, just in case someone's never seen it...):

Ah. In my head it was always OW-rin. ORR-rin is close though.
I guess accents make a difference anyway (Chandler in the UK was never pronounced in the same way it was on Friends) Ta.

Well everyone I know says Charndler in conversation i.e "Charndler is my favourite character"
But on-screen the Friends say Chan-dler. Charn as in charm. Chan as in ran.

SG I'm sure they say "Charnd-luh", right? They don't do the American hard R at the end.
Because I was looking at it, and at first I thought, well "Charnd-ler" is wrong, because there's no R in "Chandler". So it'd be wrong to just put an R in there. But then I realized, there IS an R in "Chandler". But it's at the end, where, ironically, the English don't pronounce an R. |

Quite right UT.
It's always tricky trying to get pronunciations right via spelling. But Charnd-luh is probably closest to what we say.

We should keep a running list of things we need to hear you say, and you could occasionally youtube them... just an idear.

I have suggested it before... I'd certainly be up for it!
But I would need someone to return the favour. There are plenty of things I would like to hear - especially rhyming words (which do or don't according to accent!) And I'm still intrigued by "orange". Monnie suggests there is another way to pronounce it, but it just seems wrong to me.
