I have a very hip friend who tells me that being a hipster is an undesirable thing. The term itself is used derisively by people who actually *are* hip to refer to people who try to be perceived as hip, but sadly, are not.

You aren't just wondering if he's smoking dope, are you? Because he is. That part's easy.

This is a whole different scene, just the term has been recycled. Shit evolves so fast these days, any descriptive term has to be date tagged.

I was also thinking young beatnik. Someone mentioned earlier, acting like a vagabond, but with money... I totally agree. That's what I think of when I think of the word Hipster. Like umm Harry Connick Jr. in that movie with the robot.
