eta: "a guy I know..." derp. I withdraw the question. The poppies are gorgeous, they're the California State Flower. Interestingly, they're the same color as the California State Fish, the garabaldi.

Poppies are found in the high deserts of Afghanistan. Pretty because it provides heroin - and cash for the Taliban.
