We currently have a 26" Magnavox purchased in 1992 or so. The fact that it has no inputs except for one coax jack means the use of a kludgy RF converter to handle the DVD player, but other than that it works fine. I'm hoping it'll last a couple more years through corresponding price drops. (I have my eye on a projector rather than an actual TV, though I'm a little concerned about bulb replacement costs.)

Worried with cause: replacement bulbs run 400 to 500 american! It seemed weird when I turn off the projector that the light goes off but the dang fan keeps blowing for like ten minutes. Well, that's to continue to bathe the bulb assembly in cooler air. MAN those things pump out the heat. Make a reeeeallly big picture tho and the quality is comparable to the drive-in. Not razor sharp, but you can damn near see it from space. Plenty bright even in a lit room.

Worth trying to borrow one and see how it fits in your living space. We have a rectangular living room where the tv and the couch occupy opposite long sides of the rectangle. We (I) borrowed one for the Super Bowl party at our house and found that our room just doesn't make it. We wound up arranging it kinda diagonally, and it was ok, but it would not work day to day. I don't know how big an image we could get working across the short length of the room.

anyway, they're cool, not in temp, the price/size is right, unbeatable, and here now, not "coming soon".

Just try to see one in action, if possible in your space.

Oh, and the surface upon which the image is projected is just as important as the projector. Check out some of the different screen technologies. Just a white wall will not give you all the picture the projector can deliver.
