Why are atheists typically so damn smug? It seems to me that to be sure there is no God is as much a matter of faith as to actively believe in one (or many). The only truly rational position is to be agnostic, which is to admit that it is unknowable.

In other words, why are you so quick to dismiss this as nothing more than an accident? Is it threatening to your worldview, perhaps, that someone might find meaning where you do not?
