Ad in the wrong place at the wrong time

Posted on a parenting site:

Vonage Banner Ad
"People do stupid things"
-- then a moving graphic with a hand sticking a fork into an electrical outlet
"Like paying too much for phone service"

Well, you know what? MY THREE-YEAR OLD CAN'T READ -- BUT SHE SAW THE
GRAPHIC. And this morning, I've taken forks away from her three times
as she's been on her way to the electrical outlet.

The parenting site blocked all Vonage ads to avoid problems. Vonage better pull this sucker.

hee hee.. sorry but that's kinda funny. ya know you might just let her do that.. I did as a child and since then have been more than a little leary of sticking things where they don't belong (on a number of levels) one of those valuable lessons I guess.

i was told a billion times when i was 5 years old, "Don't plug in the Christmas tree." Energy crisis, etc. We only turned it on at night for awhile before bed.

I heard the warning, processed it, and immediately went in as soon as the folks went downstairs to watch TV. Learned very quickly that you dont use your finger to guide the little copper prong into the wall. Knocked me back a couple feet, made me stupid and punch drunk for a few minutes. slight burn on my finger. Because I was a good kid at the time, I went down and confessed and mom held me for awhile. The snuffles were half guilt and half yanked out of me by raw ohms and joules and all that other stuff they put in those plugs.

These days, I am always leeary of anacdotal evidence. Perhaps there are a number of kids that have had fatal accidents. Its just not worth the risk. This is my maternal instincts kicking in.

My kids are now 15 and 19. Whew!

yeah.. alright I can see where the instinct would kick in.. then again my mother let me and my brother make all sorts of stupid mistakes.. I really don't know how many trees I have fallen out of but she did instill the look both ways before you cross the street thing.. then again it was a different time.
