Huh. Can we make wine?
To make 5 gallons of wine it takes around 15 lbs berries.

We have a mulberry tree just outside our back door. Three weeks out of the year, I want to cut the damn thing down. The berries stain everything, and you track them into the house all over the kitchen floor. The rest of the year, it's a beautiful tree.
You can eat the berries. They are a little sour. If you eat too many, you will get an upset stomach. I understand you can use tons of sugar with them to make jams, pies, etc. Not worth much, if you ask me. Recently, I learned that if you push the kids' Little Tykes car back and forth over the berries on the ground, you can smoosh most of them into the grass, where they will dry up more quickly. If you don't smooth them, they take a week or two to dry out, and you can still track them into the house. I'm going to keep an eye out for one of those old school lawn rollers at garage sales for just this purpose. |
