DC has a representation issue.

Maybe you should move to Arlington or Alexandria. The metro was a nice way to get around last time I visited your part of the world.

The "quaint law" is the Constitution. DC isn't a state, so it has no (real)representation in Congress. Either statehood, a merger into Maryland, or a Constitutional Amendment is needed.

And the reason this has no traction is that it would be guaranteed Democratic votes, and would require 2/3 votes in Congress. That's why there was a recent proposed compromise (probably unconstitutional) to give DC one representative and give an extra representative to Utah to balance it out.

This is the hardest pick for me because Weldon has been fierce on the GWoT but is also a bit of a loose cannon and has many votes I disagree with.
Weldon has the official gratitude of the union for keeping the plant open when Boeing handed it of to the newly acquired Macdonald Douglas and they wanted to move the operations elsewhere, but the rank and file are split on his being a Bush sucking idiot.

The muck raking is in high gear, according to my mailbox. Weldon's campaign has the stink of Carl Rove and Sestak's is responding in kind. Hence these two, 4 page, glossy, color, foldouts that came yesterday.
Weldon claims Admiral Sestak was mean to his subordinates.
Sestak claims Weldon's daughter got $20grand a month plus 10% of any business Daddy threw at the Russian contractors she worked for.
Weldon claims to be for property tax relief.
Sestak says, me too.
Voters knee jerk at the sound of property tax relief, forgetting that is a state/local problem, the federal reps aren't directly concerned with.

Yeah, yeah, I know...... unfunded federal mandates, etc. etc.... don't worry, they don't need the feds to think of ways to spend more your money.

And since when has anybody cared about the Constitution? If they can get rid of Habeus Corpus, surely they could throw in giving DC a representative while they're at it. I mean, what the hell?

That's where the second paragraph enters the picture. The people removing habeas aren't likely to give DC a vote.

Yup. Her son, Jacob. She's a pretty savvy politician, but, in my opinion, she's been milking that aspect of her life too much (that's how she opened her first TV ad..."I'm Patty Wetterling, and my child, Jacob, disappeared..."). I understand that her son disappeared, and that's more awful than I can possibly imagine, but that doesn't define who she is or how she's going to represent me in the District. That being said, I'd still vote for her, since her opponent is a spiteful bitch.

i am soooo resisting the urge to post a
How does your erection look?
clone thread.

mainly because the ag'ers introduced clone threads to me, and i'm attempting to maintain my superiority to those clowns. secretly, i think they're funny, and i wish i had come up with it myself.

Forgot to mention that the Dem candidate for Colorado governor is pulling steadily ahead in the polls in this Republican state. Very interesting.

It's all over for Weldon as he is now investigated by the FBI for setting up a fake firm for his daughter... and making $1M from it.

I can see setting up your kin but trading your influence to make a mint of moolah? It looks really bad for the guy, and I will be voting against him if he remains in office.
