Well, here in Kalifornia, the division/separation of Church and State has been tossed aside to allow a two-week indoctrination of school children to the Muslim faith. They must demonstrate an understanding of jihad, the five pillars of Islam and come to terms with Mohammad's status as a messenger of God.
So you are probably asking the wrong country.

Would a Western woman be allowed to teach a class without wearing a veil in Saudi Arabia?
But back to the question at hand. The woman's big mistake was NOT wearing the veil to the interview. To me, that is hypocrisy and worse. She must have encountered some adult males in the interview process and lived to tell the tale. In a culture where children are used to seeing women wearing veils, its no biggie. But in a culture where they are not, a veiled teacher is going to seem strange at best; spooky at worst. And yes, I think a veil does interfere with communication, especially for those not used to seeing a woman wearing one. |

I think you missed the point there Ali, kids probably arn't going to see a veiled woman as scary per se, but they'll probably have big questions as to why they aren't allowed to see their teacher. Education about other cultures is all well and good, but this plainly isn't about education. The bottom line is that if we determine that a veil hinders a womans ability to teach then she can't wear one here. If they think it has no effect in Saudi Arabia then it's fine, but we will decided our own laws for ourselves.
