November 4, 2006: Portrait of nails

This one's been in the queue for a while too, but it's worthy. The official caption:
Quote:
Albanian artist Saimir Strati, 40, works on a portrait of Leonardo Da Vinci using industrial nails at the International Centre of Culture in Tirana. He is attempting to produce the world's largest three-dimensional portrait using nails in order to secure a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

How old is that picture? He might be finished by now. I'd like to see the finished work!

I would have used a nail gun. Home Depot has them on sale for the holidays!

How good does a nail mosaic have to be to qualify for the record? This record seems pretty attainable if the goal is only quantity, not quality. I'm imagining a string of ever-bigger, ever-crappier art from all over the world...

Interesting. I wonder if he planned for tarnishing/rusting/weathering of nails and how that will modify the works . . .

Why not use a nice handgun? They're easy to get too. (Why do I get the feeling that some artist somewhere has done this already?)

To suffer to produce your art, now that's dedication!

I've never been a fan of artists who just bang out the work.
