how can they know what it is that they're seeing? i have always been very interested in stuff like that, i'd like them to explain it in more detail.

anyone want to take a trip to the dam ice, or ice dam, on mars?

by observing similar phenomena on Earth in arctic regions. There will be journal articles published shortly in either Science or Nature that will go into all the depth you could want.

too bad that MGS died recently.
