April 23, 2007: Madrid advertising
It's the Neatorama Monday collaboration image! Hola from Madrid, says lurker Jon, an American living there. Jon sends us this nice set of advertisements that are growing on this particular underpass there. I imagine they can be recycled all at once, just send in a backhoe to scrape. Although they do have a safety advantage: hit a bridge abutment and you land in a nice pile of soft posted bills. Eventually there will have to be some action taken, because if it keeps going like this eventually the hole for the bridge will get too small for a vehicle. Thanks Jon, I had never seen a phenomenon like this. Well I guess I have, but never to this degree. Be sure to visit our friends at Neatorama for more neato stuff all the time! |

I like the fact that they're so nicely and neatly stacked.
Pride in the work. That's what's missing from the world today.

That's some industrial-strength glue holding them up there. Time to un-lurk, Jon: I want to know, how often does a new poster get added?

I've officially un-lurked...it's hard to say how often a new poster gets added. If I had to guess I would say about once a week.

Why doesn't the government go clean that mess up?

No it doesn't. It looks like a pile of rubbish stuck to the wall.

Every time he or she registers on The Cellar.
The posters seem to be getting smaller and smaller. Maybe that has to do with the price of paper?

I like the idea of the stack finishing in a postage-stamp sized advertisement - a perfect paper and glue pyramid

It must be warm in Madrid. If that was in the US, homeless people would have burned it for heat long before it built up to that level.

Doesn't seem like a very effective place to put advertising. Don't see much foot traffic in the area, and it's too small to read from the passing cars. Plus it looks a bit like what foot traffic there may be, wouldn't have much spending money, if you know what I mean.
But I like the look of the posters. |

I could see teenagers walking by there. You know, for a "walk".
