Truth be told, I was on the Cellar while watching it, so I don't firmly recall the exact reasons...but basically it produces some sort of chemical reaction in the brain similar to a mating ritual.

The show also mentioned that it works on about 75% of all cats (which may help explain the reaction that whit's cat experienced).
