I'm confused, wouldn't "perpendicular to the direction of the penis" and "lateral placements", be the same thing?

It's called a magnetometer for a reason.

They aren't secure, and should be utilized in conjunction with a physical search. I have a knife (stainless steel, I'm not talking games with titanium) that I can carry through a metal detector. I usually make a point of doing so when we're training new staff.
