You know Merc, you have touched on an issue near and dear to my heart. Every time the Pres or VP comes to my area on a fund raising or partisan endorsement, issues not related to his official duties, I keep on asking myself why is my travel being restricted and my taxpayer dollars used to support partisan political activities of a President I didn't vote for?
Maybe instead of flying out for unofficial visits, he should have everyone pay their own money to fly in. If it will save my taxes, I'll even let him rent out the Lincoln bedroom. I don't care if he rents it out by the hour so his 'family values' supporters can f**k their mistresses, as long as it save me the tens of thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours spent among federal, state, and local law enforcement supporting his visit. I'm not talking about official duties, I'm talking about visits that under the Hatch Act are considered political and unrelated to his job. BTW, the same rules should apply for all Presidents and VP's regardless of party affiliation. The good news is that since his approval rating has dropped below %30, he's been making less and less visits to cities, concentrating on military bases for 'safe audiences'. These visits can even be classified as official. Bush becoming a political pariah has probably saved the taxpayers millions.
