Pelosi defends Murtha against Republican reprimand

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Sunday defended a leading anti-war Democrat against a Republican plan to reprimand him over a political spat on defense spending. Rep. Mike Rogers, a Michigan Republican, is expected to file a resolution this week calling for the House to reprimand Democratic Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania for allegedly threatening to withhold spending for defense projects backed by the Republican lawmaker. Murtha, chairman of the powerful House Appropriations defense subcommittee, has become a target for Republican criticism because of his leading role in Democratic efforts to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq. In the weekly Republican radio address, Rogers accused Murtha of violating House rules by threatening defense project funding. The incident followed a failed attempt by Rogers to kill a House measure granting funding for a project in Murtha's Pennsylvania district. http://www.reuters.com/article/polit...26120920070521

He's somewhere middle-aged AFAIK. We've PM'ed a bit. And it's still just like I expected: the senior leadership of the Dem Party does not understand, and will not act, in the Republic's interest. It seems to me in this Republic's interest to win this war -- and we should not give undue weight to the difficulties our foes throw in our way. The only way the Dems can rehabilitate themselves is to win the war better than the Republicans can. A good first step would be to quit sabotaging the Iraq campaign. The Republicans are at least trying to win. The only Democrats who can make the same claim are the registered Democratic voters in uniform and over there.

The Reps are too dumb to realize we lost this war before it started by not thinking ahead or planning ahead, so they went at it without the resources to control after the invasion. Worse than that, the have lost the media war in the middle east and continue to do so by letting the military keep the press at bay, so our side doesn't get reported. The military is still smarting from what they feel was unfair treatment by the press in Viet Nam, maybe because they can't get it through there skulls that we had no business being there. Now they've shot themselves in the foot again by letting the enemy win the hearts and minds of the region. I'm not saying it wouldn't be an uphill battle, but christ, don't hand it to them.

So you recommend insulting comments by 14 year olds to promote miltary victory? Such comments make Reality (ie the missing strategic objective) completely unnecessary. I was not asking about physical body age. What 'age' posts puerile replies?

Yours, speaking of puerile. I'd go so far as to remark that your thinking on political matters has never been worth a damn anyway. Too Communist, too anti-American, too anti-democracy.
