Afganistan is not the enemy. From a marxist point of view you could argue that the US has done this entirely to itself, or more accurately capatilisim has because it encourages the exploitation of poorer people creating class conflict which is alot of ways, is what this is.

This is partially true. The US trained people like bin Laden after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1980. What apparently has caused bin Laden to hate the US is the fact that we occupied Saudi soil during the Persian Gulf Conflict. He feels that we tarnished the holy sites during our stay there, not to mention our alliance with Israel. But by that rationale alone, given that most Arab countries have a weak peace with Israel, he should hate most of the Arab world.
