Through all this I'm wondering why we don't have the equivalent of the Soyuz or Shenzhou - okay the Shenzhou is closely related cousin of the Soyuz. We had one until the mid 70's called Apollo, and I'm wondering whether it would be possible to make an improved design using today's materials and systems. It's going to come down to supporting the shuttles, or supporting the ISS. I really like the shuttles, but I want to see us support the ISS.

I want to see us on the Moon's south pole mining water ice, and creating colonies on Mars. The shuttles are pretty, but not really going anywhere.
