Often they do try, some women spend nearly half their pregnancy on their backs in a hospital bed. They often can't get up even to go to the bathroom. Once the amniotic sac is broken, germs may get in from the outside.

Amazing, the difference between the largest and smallest baby, 17 lbs vs 10 oz.
