There are adjustments for non-metric units, wikipedia explains it well. I'm just using it to compare the thinness of various people of different heights. I don't advocate BMI scores as a goal or as a very reliable predictor of health. It all depends on whether your weight is muscle or flab. Reading your posts, it sounds like you're mostly muscle. reading my posts, you'd think i had a cock made out of pure gold, and farted diamond dust.
but, srsly..... i'm not mostly muscle.....well....depends on what percentage you need for a majority, i guess.... but, damn. i'm not morbidly obese, either.

I think majority is anything over 50% ... but I don't think that's really the issue here. If you're happy, and your doctor isn't constantly freaking out, then why worry? |

Further thoughts on how to weigh your head:
Hanging by the heels over a vat of liquefied heads would be inaccurate. The inverted position would cause an excessive amount of blood to flow to your head and increase its weight. Therefore, it would be better to float in a vat of liquefied bodies, with some kind of head-harness (a strap under the chin should do it, but a meat-hook up each nostril sounds much more interesting ) lifting your head out of the goop. Connect said harness to a spring scale and, voila! The (calibrated for apparatus weight) reading on the scale = the weight of your head. You don't even need to worry about keeping your mouth open. The only issue left is where to draw the line between head and neck. And monster, for the kids' science project, you could replace the liquefied bodies with a water based liquid with the correct density. That becomes step one, calculate your density. First, weigh yourself, and then use a regular shaped bath to calculate your displacement. Do the maths. Then create a solution with the appropriate density. Start with water, and add other chemicals (I have no idea what - ask a chemistry major) to decrease the density as appropriate. Still, the idea of being suspended by the heels over a vat of liquefied heads ... that is ART... and a smiley we need, but probably won't find. |

Mine appears to be 19.9 (???)
My husbands shows as 25, but he is nowhere near overweight...muscular. Hmm. Does this mean I need to work out more? |

But, once again, these numbers are a generalization, and must be taken in context of everything else : % of fat/muscle, blood pressure, resting heart rate, etc etc. If you do exercise, I guess you'd be aiming at building up, not reducing. Meh, you're doing fine. Watch some TV. |

I'm not so sure I buy into the BMI thing completely. Right now I'm 24.9 (pushing overweight according to standard) and Case is still about 19.9, yet we are both in great shape. She's prob in even better shape than when the quote above was written, and I'm still about 6'1/189 lbs. I think bodyfat percentage is a better indicator even though it's harder to calculate. When I was body building a few years ago I was 6'1/235 with bodyfat % ranging from 9%-13% and even though I had a six pack when at the 9% number, my BMI was 31(obese). I will say though, that my joints hurt more, my blood pressure was a little higher, and I didn't feel nearly as healthy as I do now.
