Most likely your mother was trained into this behavior by seeing it work with her own mother. Through the decades it has become second nature to her, to the point that she doesn't even realize she is doing it. It is who she is. The question that you must ask yourself is
after all these years, how much longer are you going to expect your mother to become someone she is not?
