The whole of Wonderwall by Oasis.

Especially
"I don't believe that anybody
Feels the way I do, about you now"

Apparently it's a love song.

But I always heard it as an old geezer singing to an ex-stripper when they were both in their 80s. Everyone adored her in her youth, but he was the only one left who was still overwhelmed.

That line always sounded caustic to me. Like someone respected and admired by everyone, screwed up. Alternatively, and ironically, they are the only "one to save him"... after all...."they're his wonderwall" (main admirer). It fits in the context with the rest of the song, I actually get the song though. He is saying someone has disappointed everyone, bet he still digs them.

That's how I heard the song. But it's never referred to as a bitter ot twisted love song. It sounds pretty grim to me!

Oh I always thought it was grim. Which is why I like it, like most of the "The Stone Roses" stuff. Sounds sweet right? Well. No. It's really not.

I love tons of music that sounds sweet but is actually quite nasty if you listen to it. I mean, how dirty is My Bloody Valentine in all their songs? It sounds like a bunch guitars and a sweet girl or guy making a noise. Those guys are dirrrty birds. Dirty!!

Some people would never know what they were trying to hum.
