+1 on the Yellowtail Cab/Merlot & especially their Shiraz...a good drink at a reasonable price. And a number of the Lindeman's, the Cabernets, Merlots and quite few of the Penfolds selections......You Aussies make some good wine at reasonable prices.....Thank you...

For the record... I used to work in a four star country house hotel. It wasn't five star because the owners at the time refused to compromise the historic setting with a swimming pool (long since resolved). We had a couple of wine tastings while I worked there. No idea why. Perhaps so the dining room waitresses could sound professional about the wine? Who knows - we had a sommalier of course, and I (for one) only worked the breakfast shift! So I thought I had a reasonable handle on wine. That and tasting it at home etc. Nope. We went to a wine and cheese tasting on a skiing holiday. Cost something minute (about £4 at the time I think) which was a bargain given we went home too pissed and full to eat dinner! It started with a "blind" test - you had descriptions of the five wines and the five cheeses and had to match them up. We did okay - better on the cheese than the wine. The cheese was thanks to me, the wine ended up being guesswork. Then it was a price test - match the wines (identified this time as 1-5 to match the descriptions) to the price. I got them almost exactly reversed. Our friend got the two top wines in the two top slots, so we got a bottle of the priciest as a prize. Given that my ex didn't drink, me & M had a rare old time knowing we were knocking back expensive wine! I know I like Rioja. Anything else I leave to the experts. Except cheese I mean. |

I am not a connoisseur of wine though I do enjoy the ceremony associated with it. Still, it's the labels that appeal to me more than the wine, though I do enjoy some now and then. As long as it's served in a glass and not a little box, I wouldn't know which was which.

I like our wines, and there are some great ones from NZ too. Some of those Chile wines are good too. I miss wine.
