10/30/2003: Fall descends in four days

![]() xoxoxoBruce points out this Earth Sci pic of the Day, in which it's shown via satellite that this year's color change happened so fast in certain parts (Wisconsin and environs) that if you blinked, you missed it. |

Here in Washington State, our temperatures dropped about 40°F in 24 hours, after 60mph winds from Canada tore through the state. All the fall folliage has been blown away.

Here in Calgary it dropped ~25C in two days accompanied by 10cm of snow and the high winds. Working in a windowless office I felt like I had seasonal jet lag or something between late summer on Saturday and waking up to winter on Wednesday. Basicly we had two days of fall like weather.

			October 6th, October 10th. Thunk!

I had a chance to drive down through the center of Washington state on forest service roads in the middle of this month, and the trees were turning amazing shades of yellow and red. Very pretty. Got some good pictures of Mt. Adams, but this digital camera really stinks. I couldn't really capture the colors of the leaves.

The Kinfolk up home in MA say this is the best color they've had in years.

That's where I grew up, Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Not many folk there, but it sure is pretty in the fall/winter. Makes me hate muggy, hot, sweaty Florida sometimes.
