It's been a no-no for so long I don't really know. I think maybe it's offensive to people with low IQs? Like i say, it's just a whole different PC language.
It's far more acceptable to call someone black there than it is here. That one sort of came full circle. There never was a term like "African American" (which, incidentally, drive black brits crazy when they emmigrate here  )
