Angry Oh, GRRRR! Has this happened to anyone else?

I haven't been around lately, thanks to a nasty virus that took over my computer. I now have AVG up and running, BUT......

Several of my friends have contacted me to know why I am sending them spam. Apparently, some low life managed to infiltrate my e-mail and under guise of being me has been sending the following message to the people on my Windows Live Mail directory:

Hi,
My dear friend, What's up?
I find a site to sell electronic products in very nice price. Laptop , Cellphone even Motorcycle are very popular. Their products are original quality with very low price as wholesale business supplier. They also can do retail business for end user now. Maybe it is suit for your business . If you like you can contact them : (www.nobel-888***)

EMAIL : falcon888@nobel***
MSN : falcon888@nobel***

(contact info deleted to protect the guilty)

Is there any way I can stop falcon666 from commiting further iniquities in my name? Do I have to set up an entire new e-mail account? How did falcon666@ignoble manage this anyhow?

Advise would be greatly appreciated!

PS Is Microsoft Security Essentials better than AVG?

I'd guess it's in your computer rather than attacking your account at the server.
Have you tried Malwarebytes to clean it?
What were you running before AVG for virus protection?

I love Bill Gates. I admire him greatly. I really appreciate what Microsoft have done in terms of widening access to computing. ... also there's something deeply attractive about a very clever man.

Anyhoo...

That Malware Bytes thing is amazing. I used to have the worst time with trojans and stuff til I got that.

I haven't (as far as i know) had anybody sending emails in my name; but this does explain why my friend Shaggy, who I haven't spoken to in years, has suddenly taken to spamming me with investment and internet moneymaking advice.

If you use an internet email address like yahoo or hotmail, it may simply be that your email password itself may have been hacked. Change the password ASAP, assuming they haven't already changed it themselves and locked you out of the account.

That was happening to AOL accounts recently as well.
I deleted my address book, (AFTER COPYING IT) changed my password immediately and they stopped... as far as I know.

Thanks, everyone! This experience has been VERY frustrating. I am now getting e-mails (spam) from people who supposedly share the same last name with me. Yeah, right. My long lost 2nd cousin is dying for me to give out my credit card number to worthlessgarbage.com. Its such a pain, but I think I'm going to have to set up a new e-mail account.

And speaking of Facebook, I find it interesting that every single person I had listed as a friend got that same bogus e-mail from me. Hmmmm....
