any Rx that will calm the nerves will help with withdrawal. When a PhD (Pretty heavy Drinker stops the booze train to the brain and body, all the numbed nerves start firing up like a stripper at a convention. "The booze is gone! It's time to PLAYYYYYY!" and you get an overwrought brain hallucinate and an over-excited body has seizures. Any sedating med will help with that nastiness.

ativan, valium, xanax, hell, even ambien will help. Ativan is the best, though, for my money.
