Coprophagia is extremely important for many herbivores. To digest their food, they need a host of baceria in their gut, but they are born without them. The only effective way to get the right bugs into your stomach is to eat some of the output of someone else's stomach. All elephants do this. Koalas produce a special poo called pap for their young.
