You're almost there! The clue "home sweet home" refers to places of origin. I emboldened Dr. Who when earlier quoting you to redirect you beyond the people/characters (Dr. Who is the story, the lead character is simply the Doctor). Congrats so far on seeing the story parallels and going for both of the possible answers, either one of which solves the riddle.
