August 8, 2012 - Floating Cities
When I was in 5th and 6th grade, I qualified for extra curricular classes to stimulate creativity and critical thought (but in high school they didn't put me on the college track - go figure). My favorite activity was learning about what the professionals thought would be the houses and cities of the future. And so, today I bring you Floating Cities of the Future!
![]() The Seascraper is a green machine with a self-sufficient community of homes, offices, and recreational space. ![]() The Plastic Fish Tower is a mixed use plastic recycling plant. ![]() The Waterscraper is envisioned as a tubelike underwater residence and lab. Beaches, restaurants, a marina, and a dive center would cater to luxury-apartment dwellers and hotel guests. (I wonder if kids would find enough entertainment without amusement parks and places to grind their skateboards. ![]() |

Top one: Look for old ladies and too many children.
Bottom one: It has the futuristicly required helicopter, but no landing pad. |

In the background of the bottom pic, the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai was completed in 1999.

the bottom one looks like a mini version of what the city of Atlantis was supposed to look like (what? so I watch H2. Does that make me an Atlantean theorist? Yes, yes it does)
also - after finding out what ferry fees are for several islands off the coast of Maine - no thanks. I couldn't afford to get off the damn thing.
