A lot of the slowness recently is now tracked down the several bots trying to get through the registration process. They try and fail because bots do not know what the name of the highest mountain is. But they try and fail a few times per second, which makes the system run through a few hoops per second, slowing it down.

I have IP-banned the bots that I've seen this morning and this has helped, but still they attack us.

Not bad but when I don't feel like logging in and want to do a search, I forget and keep trying to put in Himalayas.
