				Man Attempts Suicide by Crucifixion

HARTLAND, ME — A Hartland man was treated at a Pittsfield hospital after he nailed himself to a cross. The 23-year-old man apparently was trying to commit suicide Thursday evening in his living room, the Bangor Daily News reported. More here: http://www.kron4.com/Global/story.asp?S=1715304

Did this not seem to be an obvious obstacle during the planning phase of this procedure?

Oh...and I just want to go on record as saying that this was probably caused by that religious film of Mel Gibson's, and I plan on leading a crusade to eliminate violence in religious entertainment.

I thought the only people that crucified themselves were Catholic Filipinos.

If he'd managed to nail both his hands, I think he would have died. Those who died crucified, didn't die because of crucifixion, but because of thirst, hunger and wild lions...

I believe suffocation is part of the mix as well, that's why the Romans sometimes broke the legs. It speeds the process along... of course you'd have to be hanging for it to work.

Actually you are both right. It depended on whether they tied you to the cross or nailed you. Nailing was actually considered "more merciful" because you died faster.
