My grandmother used to make beef meatballs with ginger snaps. She probably made traditional Jewish dishes like matzoh ball soup and kreplach, but I remember the sweet and sour meatballs the most, probably because they weren't traditional.

I got through about half the pictures so far, and Haiti wins up to now for the most colorful. My wife loves herring, and I want to show her the Latvian herring dish, but what is 'anet'? I can't find any references. Is it Latvian for something I would know by another name?

The seasoning in the picture looks like dill.

P.S.S I had to add the word dill to my search to get the correct results.
