The RAH is flipping enormous. A perfect venue for paper planes. Even blinded by the lights you'd see the few that made it as they slowly dropped at the end of their flight.
I can see why it appealed to his sense of fun. Don't imagine it as The Blues Brother singing Rawhide, or even a ticker tape parade; more like throwing rose petals in the Coliseum.
