Don't know where you get that def, Bob, it's not accurate to any pilot. A flare, as I do now in 767s, (at least usually) is rotating nose-up, decreasing rate of descent to cushion landing. When we trap on the boat, we don't flare one RCH. Fly meatball, lineup, AOA on a straight line to impact. Even think of flaring, and you miss the wires, go around, and get a "bolter" grade (2.5).

I never realized on carrier landings they straight in, I thought they would flare before the ship then level out to land. Maybe they did with prop planes.
