It's not the wax ring that's the main problem for me. It's getting the bolts fed up through the flange, then getting them to stay there while maneuvering the toilet so that the holes are above the bolts, then lowering the toilet without pushing the bolts down. sux.

Ugh. I wish my buddies would redo my bathroom floor soon. It's always something: they have the particle board or whatever at my place. Now one of them is working in MD and it may never get done. Also, I have yet to buy the wax worm, I mean ring.

Spex , in the kit for the toilet ( all the bolts , washers , nuts , caps , etc,,,) there are a few plastic flat washers ( they may be clear )
put the bolts thru the flange , slide the flat washers Over the bolts , this Should hold them in place I guess you Could use rubber bands , that Might work

![]() I just replaced the wax ring, so I don't have a kit - just reusing the old hardware.

I agree. Those plastic washer help. It's still a tricky procedure sometimes. I've done it easily before, and then there have been times when a stubborn bolt keeps falling over just as I'm trying to set the bowl down.
I agree that the way toilets are installed seems to be really archaic and could use updating. You know, in the olden days, the porcelain horn of the toilet actually went down below the level of the floor surface and into the drain pipe. The wax ring was just there to hold gasses back. It didn't have to withstand any water pressure, because the water went from the porcelain horn and right into the drain pipe. Now, that porcelain horn is much shorter and points to the drain pipe but doesn't enter it. Doesn't really make sense. |

I had to do the double wax ring on a toilet in our 1926 vintage home. That was 9 years ago and it's still holding.

Hows about you order a regular cheeseburger and I order a regular cheeseburger and I give you mine. Then you can just stack them together and have both.
