Like you already said, MJ I expected. This one not so much. She's been out of the news long enough I guess I figured she'd cleaned herself up. bummer.

I, for one, feel a tremendous sadness at the passing of Whitney Houston. She had the voice of an angel, and she was so beautiful. The fact that she wasn't perfect, that she had demons (that an angel should have demons) made her all the more real to me. She wasn't a joke.

I'm not one to fawn and paw over celebrities, but I am appreciative of artists of any kind who are a cut above most. I admire especially the ones who almost don't even seem real, they're just that good.

I have a VHS of SNL Music a Go Go (from first 15 years of SNL music) and one of the features where they show the whole performance is Whitney doing "I'm Your Baby Tonight." Decked out in the dress of the time, dyed denim shorts with holes, a cute jacket, she was so young and beautiful. I asked my ex if her performance was lip-synched because it was just so perfect. He's a musician, and with his better perception of such things told me there was one little part, one little note that was just a little off, and that's one of the reasons he knew it was live. I couldn't detect it, and I still listen to that performance (when I have my VHS player set up) completely incredulous that it's a live performance.

R.I.P. Whitney. You were one of a kind, one in a billion.

Love it
/guilty secret

It's one of my Christmas vacation go-tos.

That and True Lies

I love Dirty Dancing too, though, so my taste could be described as dubious at best.

I also love Goodmorning vietnam, Full Metal Jacket and A Fish called Wanda.

Well then I'll check it out.

Someone I never expected told me he thought Dirty Dancing was not bad, and I jokingly fell to the floor, pounding the carpet, saying "no.....no.....no." LOL

FMJ is one of my top ten.

You know what, I've not seen True Lies either. That's Jamie Lee, right?

Eclectic is good. I note movies in your list that might not be on my list, but I can see the appreciation of them.

Then again, I also like Love Actually (just posted about it recently and have watched it again since then) and Muriel's Wedding and Four Weddings and a Funeral.

So I've seen two recommendations for The Bodyguard, and I'm going to get it.

I loved that song, too. It was played constantly on VH1 back then and VH1 was constantly on at my house back in 87/88. I had to play it just now, and was surprised at how well I remember it, even now.

I still think that album was her best.

RIP, Whitney.
