I think to a certain degree the entertainment profession, and children's entertainment even moreso, tends to attract sociopaths and abusers.

For one thing, people who crave never-ending attention are more likely to seek that kind of job. For another, many successful entertainers get started in the industry very young, which means their parents got them into it, which means they probably weren't getting many good examples of loving moderation in their lives.

Certainly this is not true of all, or even most professional entertainers, even the ones whose parents let them start performing very young. But just like religion tends to attract the nutters, I think show business does too.

And politics. And anywhere you might find a kind of institutional power.

Some of the most prolific sex abusers of children have worked in or managed children's care homes and reformatory schools.

DanaC, longstanding victims ignored, incompetence, cover-ups, collusion, bandwagon jumping, and innocent passers by getting caught up just because they worked in the business.
I think you've covered it .
pity the media haven't a clue how much is enough.

All I know is, if I ever find out that Captain Kangaroo or Bob McCalister (sp?) were pedos, I will have to remove the part of my brain that remembers them.

When my dad worked at ABC in the 60s, we got to go on Wonderama. Coincidentally, my older sister won a bicycle or something like that. He seemed nice and not overly familiar or touchy. Even as a kid I could tell it was fucking mayhem on the set and I'm sure all the adults needed a drink afterwards.

Well, I was on the Bozo show, and let me tell you about that bozo Bozo.

Just kidding. As far as I remember Bozo was a very nice clown. He let me tell a joke. So the story goes. I don't remember a damn bit of it. (Oh NO! Repression?)

Nah, Bozo was aight. :clownsmilie:

Again.
I really don't mean to follow JBK from post to post and I am certainly not targeting him.
But his posts come up in New Posts and sometimes they're in threads I've read before and am interested in.

But today they are just gibberish. I think this is better than searchable hate-words or opinions, but it's still worrying. Sadly I'm not worried enough to care, because I have never managed to connect with him.
So I'm back to being conflicted and I think Ignore is back on.
