Yeah..theater types are the best...even the geeks (lights, sound, props, scenery...okay, everyone who isn't actually acting, for the most part) are pretty hip.

The biggest parties when I was in high school were always put on by the crew hippies.

All of the crap that people think is so important isn't. It never was, never is. I was a computer geek that dressed in black, got picked on til my Junior year in high school. I just decided to try football, and suddenly I was ok. That taught me that a lot of people are full of crap; they're not bad people, their mental filters are clogged and in dire need of cleaning. Be true to yourself. A lot of that feelgood talk does exactly that, but after a while you do realize that you're just as important as anyone else. There are times when you'll be alone; this is true. It's goig to sound funny, but you'll always have yourself. True friends will stick with you. Sometimes you may want to poke some of them with a pointed stick, but that's normal, too.

I bet you could probably finish a high school equivalacy right now, but don't. Stay with high school. I always get a good feelling when I look at my high school diploma. I also get an better feeling looking at my 2 year diploma from community college. Art appreciation indeed. I feel even better looking at my savings account now and realizing that I could go out an buy a Ferrari that needs TLC.

Get a cheap MP3 player and go for a walk. Find the best music you can and the best trail you can. Have no goal other than to go for a nice long walk, though.

Realize that the crap people may feed you is crap, but don't let cynicism become a way of life for you. Cynicism is a tool, not a lifestyle. If you let it rule you, you'll end up like Dennis Leary: Dark, bitter, funny, and one lung away from a transplant.

It's okay to daydream about the future, about 7-10 years from now, but start making small steps toward that today; 7-10 years later can creep up on you sooner than you think.

Extend common courtesy to others, but make sure that your courtesy extends to yourself. You are the only "you" around. Respect yourself.

Pretend to be a Jedi, but don't make the lightsaber sounds; it freaks people out. The hand waving, the Jedi mind tricks work on ocassion. Weak-minded people and all, you know.

april,

if you enjoy your own company, you don't have to feel lonely.

avoid listening to depressing music, and wearing too much black clothing

Lonely is just another word for not having met your match.

Since you are in high school, that's probably a good thing

Let not your heart be troubled - trust me when I tell you that it is a good sign that high school is not the best time of your life.

That'll mean more retrospectively than it means prospectively. But, I think you already understand that. Take comfort in your future - and it won't be because you make more $ than the people around you - it really means that you finally decide to recognize that who you ARE is really pretty cool. And THAT is the biggest victory of them all.

Accept yourself - even if the people around you don't. A change of scenery works wonders!!

High School, depending on your district, is a span of three to four years.

Right now, this seems like a lot of time.

Before you know it, it won't be.

There is life after high school, to use the title of a book written before you were born.

You're learning a lot about yourself now, and also about interactions with others. Don't sweat it.

Even if you don't believe it, [fill in crisis point of your own here] is not the end of the world. In case you think it is, know where to turn for help and support.

Going your own way in high school can be tough, but it's good practice for the rest of your life. You do not need to follow the herd. Actually, it can be a LOT more fun not to.

Make the most of this time and try not to dent up the 'rent's car too bad when they let you use it.

The difficult thing to get is that almost every other kid in your school has similar feelings. The big joke you'll be in on later is that there is a tiny minority of folks who'll always look back at high school as the best time of their lives. How pathetic. Some of the same kids you resent now will never get a life. You will not carry that baggage around. You will be looking forward.

How do you manage to have both good grades and a daughter? I thought those two things were pretty much mutually exclusive. Are you in a special program for kids with kids? And what's your custody arrangement? Where's the little r970 when you're in classes?
