Fill your life with importance and meaning
The title and inspiration of this thread comes from someone's Amazon list, which has some nice things on it:
Trina Casey's Amazon list I'm just curious to know what would be on your list.

The lack of money can have an impact on how happy you are - money brings choices and with more choices there are greater opportunities to be happy.
But I shrink away from the idea that I could fill my life with importance and meaning by writing a shopping list.

Well, I think you're very right, Sundae Girl. However, the idea is less about the "shopping" or listing items, than it is about--
--learning Italian --recording your family's memories --going camping with your family --cooking if you look at the list, that's the sort of thing she mentions, and what I'm looking for. the shopping is just a bonus!

from that chick's list ... I may have to get one of these, but the product information doesn't say anything about how bullet resistant it is or how the materials effect the flight characteristics.

probably more important that it's dog-bite resistant! Unless you use yours for target practice, of course

Happiness can come from having less money too.

Yes, physical ones.
Does anyone here agree with Maslow's hierarchy or needs? I have found some flaws in it but from experiencing different levels, I have found it pretty accurate. |

That's an interesting diagram, though I think the self-actualization part ought to come right after the physiological needs.

Any reason? I actually found this very accurate having juggling through levels 3-5 for past two years. I know I am not at self-actualization but you know when you visit that stage temporarily.
I have had a sense of belonging but low self-esteem but never had high self-esteem without a sense of belonging. I disagree with some of the reasons for being at a level but agree 100% with how they are roughly grouped. |

Sorry, I should have explained. I think that with self-actualization, much of the rest can fall into place, or be worked on. A lot of those things that are in between on the diagram can go awry (especially in the safey and love/belonging realms), but if you have most of what's at the top or the bottom, you're alright. And I believe that you should have self-actualization first to achieve esteem. However, that's my personal take on it--"results may vary."
