A spate of underwire incidents....

OK, those in the *know*, I have had 4!! bras in the last week where the underwire has burst through the little sleevey thing.

Whats causing this? They arent el cheapo bras and I always wash them in one of those little laundry bags for *delicates*.

One just did it now, its annoying and owwie. I've stuck a bandaid over it, but its kinda ruining the cleavage look.

....can you tell I am not particularly interested in working today?

Ouch, that just happened to me the other day! It wasn't el cheapo either (supposedly), and still fairly new. I wish they'd find a way to make these things without sharp, pointy wire.

Shouldn't this thread be in quality images?
(just asking...)

I've never had that problem with my brand (Victoria's Secret.) And I've actually had occasion to cut out the wires myself in the past, and it's always been pretty difficult--and when I did get them out, I saw that the wires had little plastic nubs on the end to prevent them from poking out on their own.

I don't know if you get them in OZ, but I highly recommend Victoria's Secret...

You're right, Victoria's Secret bras are good--I'd forgotten about them. Oh! I'll just have to walk a couple of extra blocks to get them.

All I know about underwires is, don't wear them out in a storm.

One of my VS underwires did pop out. After poking the wire back into the sleeve I took needle/thread and hooked a few stitches at the hole to hold it all inside. Still working, and the repair job was done over a year ago.

The little delicates bags are great for washing...but I would still recommend laying them flat to dry.
Don't toss the bag of bras into the dryer. I really feel the heat of the dryer is what ruins most delicates, in addition to the friction of tumbling against the other fabrics.

I have underwires in most of my bras and I don't buy cheap ones either. From time to time I do have 'breakouts' of wires and it's very annoying. I've generally attributed these to poor stitching. A couple of brands I've never had problems with are Oroton and Elle McPherson. Also Bendon are pretty good too. There's a new brand out here called Crystelle. I have one and it's so comfortable and so far no sign of breakages.

Having to wear a dance belt every day really gave me a real appreciation for what you ladies go through every day... I wouldn't do it.

Dance belt? I'm intrigued.

And, while I have had underwire incidents, I still way prefer wearing a bra to not wearing one. The bouncing, it hurts!

I vaguely recall a humorous scene in either the TV show or movie, Fame, in which Leon is told that he has to go buy a dance belt.

As far as underwires go, I've had relatively few problems with them, although I also have the near escapees from time to time. I have determined that the manufacturers of washers and bras are in cahoots, as "Gentle," as printed on the front of the washer, bears absolutely no relation to the dictionary defination of that word. I don't let the slingshots hit the spin cycle any more. Wash and a bit of a rinse and that's that. Hang dry.

My big problem tends to be the side boning. I've got one bra that gives great lift and cleavage, but I get bruises from the darn thing. I save it up for special occasions since I can't wear it to work. The last thing you want when you're slaving over a bunch of hot psychotics all night is a poky bra. I'm already irritable enough ...
